      Max Kade Visiting Professor at UC Davis, Winter 2020

      Professor Keppler-Tasaki's lecture is drawn from his forthcoming book, How Goethe Became Japanese, and will cover Zen-Buddhist readings of Goethe by Paul Carus, Kitaro Nishida and D.T. Suzuki. Carus was German American and D.T. Suzuki was trained in the U.S. and taught at Columbia. This lecture will thus bring together aspects of American, German and Japanese culture.
