Doug Aitken's NEW ERA installation makes its West Coast premiere at the Manetti Shrem Museum. Opening Thursday, Sept. 26, amid the museum's Fall Season Celebration that also will showcase two continuing exhibitions.
NEW ERA — Set within a hexagonal pavilion built into the gallery space, featuring three projectors set opposite three mirrored walls, putting viewers in the middle of a poetic and visual narrative about humanity’s history and future. Through June 14.
Landscape Without Boundaries — Significant works by such artists as Robert Arneson, Joan Brown, Bruce Conner, Gladys Nilsson, Martin Ramirez, Wayne Thiebaud and William T. Wiley show how painting, sculpture and drawing addressed and reflected the Northern California landscape in the years after World War II. Through Dec. 15.
ColorForm — Sculptures and drawings by Kathy Butterly, who received a Master of Fine Arts degree at UC Davis in 1990. This is her first retrospective exhibition. Through Dec. 29. Museum hours: noon-6 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday; noon-9 p.m. Thursday; and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday-Sunday.
